Teaching Excellence Award

The Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association (PBAA) Teaching Excellence Award recognizes Pitt-Bradford faculty (current or emeriti) who have exemplified the educational principles established at Pitt-Bradford, shown dedication in the teaching of their students and excelled in their area of specialty.

The annual award consists of a plaque of recognition from the alumni association and a $1,000 cash award given to the recipient’s academic division to be spent at the awardee's discretion, in accordance with university policies and procedures.

The PBAA Teaching Excellence award will be presented at the annual Alumni Awards Brunch during Alumni Weekend, the first weekend in October.

If possible, special letters will be mailed to the recipients’ former students informing them that their former professor will receive the award and inviting them to attend the awards brunch.

Denny Lowery Distinguished Volunteer Award

The PBAA Denny Lowery Distinguished Volunteer Award was created to recognize individuals who have enriched the life of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association through their volunteer efforts.

PBAA Distinguished Volunteer Award The PBAA Distinguished Volunteer Award has the following objectives:

  • To recognize one alumnus/na each year for outstanding volunteerism
  • To encourage alumni to remain active and loyal to Pitt-Bradford
  • To promote and enhance the reputation of Pitt-Bradford and the alumni association
  • To support participation in PBAA activities

The PBAA Distinguished Volunteer Award recipient will receive a gift of recognition from the alumni association and will also have his or her name appear on a plaque listing the names of all the recipients of the award. The award is presented at the annual Alumni Awards Brunch during Alumni Weekend, the first weekend in October.

Alumni Award of Distinction

In 2006, during the alumni association's strategic planning process, the alumni association investigated the feasibility of establishing an award to honor distinguished graduates. The Board of Directors established the Alumni Award of Distinction to be awarded during Commencement. The PBAA Award of Distinction is awarded to alumni for outstanding professional achievement and/or exemplary service to the community. The recipient(s) will receive a resolution, presented by the University President and the PBAA President.

Past recipients are Dr. Jill Slike Owens '93 (2010), Dr. Lee R. Colosimo '65-'67 (2011), Tamra Minnier '81 (2012), Rich Johnson '88-'90 (2014), and Divia Thani '01 (2015).
